Installing Fedora Core 4

First of all

This Section lists the various special Procedures of older Versions.

Booting the Installer

The System will boot quickly to the first (dark) Setup-Screen. The aha7*** Drivers need some time to load, just wait.

Lex-Boards with Via C3 and integrated Trident VGA

The initial Installation has to be done in Text-Mode, because the Trident Modules on the CD will crash on this board.
After booting from the CD type
 linux text
on the first Screen and continue Setup in Text Mode.

once the System wants to reboot, remove the Fedora CD and insert a Knopix CD instead and boot Knoppix. Mount the Partition where Your /etc is located and edit
 /etc/X11/xorg.conf
go to the
 Section "Device"
and change
  Driver   "trident"
to
  Driver   "vesa"
save the File, unmount the Partition and shut down Knoppix.

Now the first Boot of Fedora can be undertaken and will work. Don't forget to yum update as soon as possibile.

Real Player

The Real-Player is a good Candidate for Workarounds in every new Release. This Time it need an old C-Library.
Get the Library fom an older FC2 or FC3 System of the same Architecture and copy it to /usr/lib/. Then link it to the required Name in the same Directory.
  ln -s libstdc++.so.5.0.5 libstdc++.so.5
